About the Artisan
Jai Narayan Lal Das, a prominent Madhubani artist, embodied everything that is vital and admirable about Indian traditional art today: a deep understanding of the art form, the stories and cultural context of being a traditional craft artist, incredible skill and passion, and unrivalled faith in his calling. Mr. Jai Narayan received numerous awards and recognitions, including national and state honours. He also passed on his knowledge to future generations in order to keep this art alive.
Religious festivities, social scenes such as a wedding ceremony or even friends playing, and natural elements such as elephants, crocodiles, and fish are the three main themes in Madhubani art, also known as Mithila art. The Tree of Life, a sacred and multicultural symbol, appears frequently in Madhubani artwork. It is especially significant as a symbol of sustenance because humans, birds, and other animals all rely on the tree for shelter, food, water, and oxygen. Madbhuani's works primarily employ natural dyes derived from flowers, vegetables, and leaves.
