Large-format black-and-white Pattachitra of Krishna Leela with central medallion and story panels; intricate linework throughout.
Rendered entirely in lampblack and conch-white, this monumental Pattachitra reads like illuminated lace. At the center, Radha and Krishna turn within a floral wheel, while radiating petals and surrounding panels narrate Krishna Leela—pastoral play, serpent conquest, flute serenades, and village festivities. Without color to lean on, the painter composes with pure line: cross-hatching, stipple, and scalloped filigree knit figures, textiles, and foliage into a continuous hymn. The monochrome field gives interiors a contemporary edge, yet the iconography remains deeply devotional.
The long rectangle is orchestrated with perfect symmetry—outer borders carry a steady beat of lotus rosettes, the corners tighten with guardian cartouches, and the central medallion anchors the eye. Such pieces demand thousands of micro-strokes; under glass, they sparkle like hand-embroidered jamdani. Place it across a dining wall or above a sofa to let the narrative grid unfurl; a neutral room lets the black-white complexity breathe. Handmade, archival, and framed with a wide mat, it is a museum-style statement carrying the quiet music of Vrindavan.
