Leather Mask – Goddess Durga (Yellow Face, Ornate Crown)

Handcrafted in the folk ateliers of Odisha, this leather wall mask depicts Goddess Durga with a luminous yellow face and an elaborate, gem-like crown. The base is treated goat hide that has been washed, sun-cured and stretched over a mould for a smooth, resilient surface. After burnishing, the artisan draws the features freehand and paints with plant and mineral pigments. The crown stacks paisley and rosette medallions; every ring is dotted with fine white filigree that reads like beadwork. A delicate nose ring and centered bindi complete the benevolent expression. Leather gives a warm, tactile presence and a soft glow under evening light. The reverse is finished cleanly with a simple hanging point. Minor grain marks and slight edge waviness are natural to hand-stretched leather and affirm authenticity. Display indoors away from direct sun and moisture; dust with a dry, soft cloth.
