Handcrafted Red Fabric Bead Necklace Set with Tribal Fish Charms

Why you will love it: This vibrant necklace-and-earring set pairs plush red fabric beads with three antique-gold fish charms inspired by India’s tribal art vocabulary. It is designed for celebratory dressing and everyday personality—comfortably light, refreshingly tactile, and unmistakably handcrafted.

The design story

The hero of the set is a trio of stylised fish—an auspicious motif across the subcontinent symbolising fertility, good fortune, and flowing abundance. Our artisans interpret this icon in the earthy idiom of Dhokra/folk metalwork, rendering each fish with textured scales, a geometric eye, and a squared tail. To keep the metalwork warm rather than flashy, we finish the charms in an antique-gold patina. The metal glows softly against a string of hand-rolled fabric beads in a brilliant red ikat-inspired cotton, the same cloth that forms the comfort-first tie-up at the nape. The palette—red and gold—is classic festive India; the silhouette—fabric spheres plus talismanic drops—reads fresh and modern.

Artisanal process

Beads: Each bead begins as a narrow strip of cotton. The strip is wrapped around a cushioned core, hand-stitched invisibly, and lightly steamed so it holds a crisp, symmetrical sphere. Because fabric is involved, the beads feel soft and never dig into the collarbone. Our craftspeople sort them by diameter and weight to ensure a stable drape.

Metal charms: The fish are sand-cast in a brass alloy and chased by hand. Subtle line work—fins, gill marks, concentric eyes—creates play of light without sharp edges. After casting, each charm is polished, brushed with a blackening compound to sit deeper in the grooves, and re-buffed to achieve the antique finish you see.

Assembly: The beads are strung on a durable multi-filament cotton cord with concealed knots between them to prevent abrasion and to give the necklace that articulated, rolling movement. The cotton ribbon ends are stitched to the cord and top-stitched for strength before being turned and pressed. The earrings echo the bead texture in a stacked double-sphere format and use skin-friendly, nickel-safe hooks.

How it wears

The tie-up closure makes the piece adjustable from a close collarbone look to a mid-chest drape. The weight is centred so the fish sit neatly in front, and the fabric distributes pressure, so you can comfortably wear it for hours. Pair it with a white shirt for a pop of colour, a black kurta for festive minimalism, or a printed saree for a maximalist mood. The earrings are statementy yet featherlight; wear them solo on casual days, or with the necklace for a coordinated set.

Craft & community

Buying this set supports a cluster of home-based women artisans who specialise in fabric bead rolling and finishing. Our metal elements are developed with a small foundry that keeps alive generational casting skills. Each piece is made in small batches; minor variations in bead weave, patina depth, or stitch marks are the signatures of a hand process and make your piece unique.

Care & longevity

  • Store flat in the provided cloth pouch to preserve bead shape.
  • Keep away from water, perfume, and high humidity; patina may deepen beautifully over time.
  • To clean, wipe metal gently with a soft, dry cloth; do not soak.
  • If the fabric gathers lint, roll gently with tape; do not iron the assembled necklace.

Packaging & gifting

Arrives in a recyclable kraft box with a protective muslin sleeve and a craft card narrating the motif’s symbolism. Ready to gift for festivals, weddings, and milestone days.

Styling ideas

With a linen dress, let the ribbon trail down the back for drama. With handloom sarees, layer with slim metal bangles in antique tones. For winter, style over a high-neck knit—the fabric beads sit comfortably and won’t chill the skin like metal-only pieces.

Ethical notes

No animal-derived glues are used. We run small-batch production to minimise waste and utilise offcuts to create bead cores. Variations are celebrated; returns are accepted for manufacturing defects but not for natural handmade irregularities.

Make this your lucky charm for days when you want colour, craft, and conversation to flow.
